Butcher House

Proud Winner of Best New Home $1-$1.5M at the Mackay Regional Building Design Awards

This house was designed for a family of a builder with the intention to create a home which was unique as the occupants.

The building form has references to the surrounding agricultural shed structures which places the house comfortably within the Whitsundays sugarcane producing rural context. The large central volume hints at the space within.

The internal spaces comfortably house the occupants with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, powder room, vintage car storage, living and cooking areas, mezzanine floor and several decks, with the layout establishing a sense of fun and engagement. A large pool and pool house with a bathroom allows an entertaining area which has audible separated from the house whilst maintaining visual connection to the external living space of the house. The mezzanine floor provides an area to party or relax utilising netting to achieve clever sightlines through the house.

A key component of the brief was the elimination of plasterboard. Walls and ceilings have been lined in plywood, rendered or clad in brickwork veneer creating durability and character. The appearance and detailing of the design has delivered a unique, quality home.
