Hydeaway Bay
Under construction, due for completion mid 2024.
The Hydeaway Bay house is the result of a clients unconditional love for the site and the lifestyle which it allows. The brief was to create a resort style Whitsunday home which complimented the existing dwelling. The original dwelling provided the clients with a family home which they had a deep connection with. A vacant lot was situated conspicuously beside the home with the idea of acquisition always at the back of mind. Upon the opportunity to purchase the site, the idea was born to extend the existing residence into the vacant lot to create their dream home. The house is a culmination of the clients hard work and success.
The design solution was to create a linking entry between the old and the new creating 2 distinct wings. The existing kitchen has been removed and remodelled generating improved functionality and storage. The new wing incorporates entertaining spaces and a master bedroom and ensuite which includes an outdoor shower courtyard. The overall scale of the building and availability of land has allowed the inclusion of a home gym, outdoor shower, wine cellar, brick pizza oven, passenger lift, workshop and office.
The close proximity to waters of the Whitsundays is referenced on each side of the building. The entry to the house is enhanced by a bridge which traverses a long a natural pond. At the ocean frontage a swimming pool with wet edge provides a relaxing experience and an aspect out to the bay. This design sees the building occupants cross over the pond as they approach the front door then look through a fixed panel of glass over the pool and wet edge upon opening the front door.
The project has been a personal milestone as a designer with the client engaging my services from start to completion of the project.
