Wave House

The brief was to create a house with a roof that presented as a wave, relating to the marine environment of Airlie Beach. This led to a design solution in which roll formed roof beams created an organic curve above the entry level and the outdoor living space. A curved main roof was used to tie the wave theme together. Timber was used over the outdoor living space to create an impressive soaring plane. At the entry level, the elevated roof features louvre openings at the highest point in the home, allowing hot air to rise and escape and light to penetrate the stairwell and levels below.

The wet edge pool is an engineering achievement, the top projects 7 meters above the natural ground below. This creates a dramatic experience with ease of accessibility on a challenging site. The water of the wet edge falls to create a connection to the water of the Whitsundays beyond.
